Slumber in the Belly of the Beast

In the sub-zero wasteland of the planet Hoth, only the strong survive... and of course those lucky Jedi protected by the thick skin of a Tauntaun. Now after exhaustive movie viewing research and analysis ThinkGeek Labs has isolated the exact synthetic compounds needed to re-create Tauntaun fur. What have we done with this supreme knowledge? Created a Tauntaun sleeping bag of course.

Yours for a mere $100

I'm surprised they ever got approval from the star wars lawyers to do this, but damn if it isn't hilarious!

Someone just hit the back of the civic while it was parked in a parking lot, and then bolted.
Hit and run FTL.
I wouldn't have even noticed the damage until later if some nice man hadn't seen the whole thing, and written down the licence plate number of the offending car.
Silver Spring PD has been called and dealt with, Geico has been called and dealt with.

Now I am home and annoyed.

Lalalala vacation~!

  • Nov. 5th, 2009 at 2:09 PM
Tonight, guests arrive from the U.K. Wonderful Husband and I looked at our accrued vacation and the fact that we really haven't taken any time off to just chill and unwind in rather a long time, and decided to take a week off. Which means that I spent the last two days working solid to clear everything off my desk, get all the filing done, all the cremains boxed up, etcetera... and I managed it. Last contract went into the mail ten minutes before closing yesterday. I don't think I stopped typing all Tuesday.

Our guests don't arrive until late tonight, so Wonderful Husband and I are taking the chance to actually sort and order and ream the house into cleanliness. The back bedroom actually looks like a guest room! ...Save for the closet of boxes of stuff we haven't dealt with yet. But the rest of it? Pristine for a change. The whole back half of the house is looking pretty good, in fact. This leaves the office, living room, dining room, and kitchen to go....

Lunch first.

The empire strikes back

In recent weeks, we've taken huge steps towards blocking spam accounts on LiveJournal. In fact, we've suspended as many as 30,000 accounts in a single day! We've implemented several pre-emptive measures to prevent the creation of spam accounts, and we've honed our detection of suspicious content. Spam bots are a crafty lot, so we'll continue to refine our tactics and keep up the good fight to keep you safe from spam attacks on LiveJournal.

RSS feeds again

If you're addicted to [info]xkcd_rss, [info]icanhaschzbrgr, or other syndicated feeds, we're pleased to report that we've resolved the update error that was mucking up your RSS feeds. While content was being pulled correctly, it wasn't being posted to the feeds themselves. Late last week, we finally nailed down what we hope was the root problem, so content should post properly. We thank you for your patience.

Missing....

  • Nov. 5th, 2009 at 11:52 AM
I miss my father...I don't care that he wasn't my real father but he raised me as his own (yeah found out that he wasn't my dad)
I miss my Uncle Don...he was the one who took care of me and raised me as another daughter, even though he was a hard ass but he did it because he loved me. (So the audio recording he left us said.)
I miss my sisters, my two oldest sisters who drifted apart.
I miss all of my friends...from  New Jersey, one in Vegas, the one in Washington, and the ones who aren't friends with me anymore from just going their seperate ways & drifting apart. I hope they know who they are...I miss you and I hope you're doing ok. Even though we don't talk or see eachother, you're in my thoughts and prayers. I love you all.

And....I miss family. My cousins Nicole, and Diana...who need to pull that stick out of their ass and stop being so malicious to everyone. Just because Uncle Don passed...doesn't mean we should ignore his side of the family just because they want all of the attention. To stop the rumors spreading and breaking this family apart futher than it already is...stop telling your mother that she was a horrible mother and don't care when she dies. You will regret it when she dies and the time you need your mother she won't be there, bitches! For two ppl who are in their mid 30's still have alot of growing up to do.

google called; they said that the executive hiring committee (or something to that effect) approved me, and that sometime around the end of next week they'll have a formal offer for me. They expect that, accounting for the delays with the visa paperwork, I'd start sometime around January 2010.

Yay, perhaps.

Radical Leaf-ectomy

  • Nov. 4th, 2009 at 9:06 PM
The city sent out folks to check out the tree today, no fuss, no muss. I love Santa Clara. My tree is now all tied up and I no longer twitch at every breeze. The note left says they'll be back tomorrow to remove the branches threatening my neighbor's place and save the rest of the tree. I call this an all's well that ends well.

And now I go to wallow in hot water and pass out.

Writer's Block: Change is good

If you could change one major thing about your life, whether a relationship, your job, your living situation, your school, etc., what would it be? Are you currently working toward a serious life transition?

I'd be published already, and be a big-time author. Once that happens, everything else will fall into place.

Timber

Tree in front of the house has a crack down the middle of it running three-quarters of the way to the ground. It looks to be a new crack, possibly from the big wind storms we had last night. I call the city tomorrow to, since it's technically their tree, pretty please do something about it before it splits all the way and falls on my neighbor's car.

I was fussing about not wanting the tree taken out and how I'll miss it -- right up until that unhappy part of my brain said "I better hope the city will take care of it. You know how much it's going to cost if I have to pay for it?"

I really hope the city handles it. Otherwise I'm going to be very, very, very most extraordinarily broke. And either way, I'm fussed because it's a nice tree for all that it likes getting into my sewer lines and tries to hide my property under leaves in the late fall.

LARPing and the courteous cold

  • Nov. 2nd, 2009 at 11:24 PM
Indeed my cold was courteous, in that it waited until after the LARP was all finished to manifest. Or maybe it just couldn't stand the excitement of the day, since it seems to be a pretty mild cold, more annoying than anything else.

But the weekend was wonderful- I survived a bout of zombie movie on Halloween, to attend a brilliant Dragaeria LARP that involved governmental change and macroeconomics. Since it's Dragaeria, it all worked out well. I got to play a brilliantly decadent Phoenix, something like a Bertie Wooster with a deathwish. I bumbled around, insulting Dragons and inserting the occasional pointed observation or question between my calls for drinks. And then abruptly, solved a mystery that turned out to be far more personally important than the turning of the cycle. Lots and lots of fun, and I actually got some fairly intense acting in. I'm looking forward to the next LARP.

Spicy Things, Mostly

My mother just made up a new batch of salsa today. (She and I sort of alternate making it, and split each batch.) Oh my lips are still burning.... ^_^

New favorite video of the moment at our place:

Also, Wonderful Husband reamed out the garage to where we are both parking in it now, because he is wonderful like that, and the carrot seeds I planted have finally sprouted!

Elevator Strangeness

Heard in the elevator at work: "That was so gay! I got killed by the mountain troll after it was dead."
